My Story

The Artist

Daphne is a self-taught artist living in Wilmington, NC. Born in Bryson City, North Carolina, she has lived primarily in the south. She graduated from UNCA with a B.A. in Biology.

She has combined her love for the natural world with this unique art form. Through her work, she strives to bring attention to the environment and the organisms with whom we share this planet. Daphne was first inspired by exposure to her grandmother’s work, who’s pyrography and art work decorated her childhood home and drew her toward the exploration of this distinctive medium.

All images are hand-rendered and burned into wood using a Colwood Olympiad Pyrography tool and various nibs. Her work is currently displayed at Craven Arts Council & Gallery in New Bern, N.C.
